Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word (CCC 1213).
St. Catherine’s parish welcomes you warmly and takes delight in celebrating the Baptism of your child. We share in your joy and ask God's special grace for your entire family on this happy occasion.
How do I start this process?
By filling out the Baptism Form which is available either online or from the parish office, once we receive it, we will contact you to schedule an interview with you. You will need to present your child’s birth certificate to complete the Baptism Form. Baptisms are celebrated within any of the masses celebrated on the fourth Sunday of each month. You will receive a Baptism Certificate immediately after the celebration.
Parents are required to attend a pre-Baptism class offered on the first Wednesday of every month. This class is held once a month in the Pastoral Life Center, located next to the church. Godparents are also encouraged to attend this class. If you have taken a Baptism class within the last three years at another parish, please provide us with a letter of proof from that parish.
The child must have at least one godparent. Godparents must be baptized and confirmed Catholics who are practicing their faith. Accord to the Law of the Church (C.873), if there are two godparents one must be a man and one a woman. A baptized non-Catholic may act as a witness to the Baptism. If the godparents belong to another parish, we request a letter from a priest or deacon from that parish.
A donation of $25 to the Church is customary. Should you wish, you may also give a separate offering to the officiating priest/deacon directly to him after the celebration.
Please do not hesitate to speak with the office staff or a member of the clergy about any of your questions or concerns. We are here to serve you in the best possible manner.
Please call the parish office at (808)822-7900 for more information.
May the celebrating of the sacrament of Baptism bring your family many blessings and become a source of renewal of faith.
